Welcome to February 2022!
Welcome to the month of February! I hope we’ve all had a good start to this wonderful month! The theme for the month is “Trusting God for Your Finances.” We believe that the worst of the pandemic is behind us and the economy is gradually moving back to normal. We are so grateful to God for sustaining us and keeping us throughout this season.
The first passage of scripture we’ll be looking at in line with our theme for the month is Psalm 23:1 (NKJV) “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.
Christ nailed one of the greatest causes of worry: The provision of physical needs (and the money to get them). He also gave instructions on how to destroy worry about money. Please imagine for a moment that your Lord and savior, Jesus Christ is sitting next to you and speaking these words: Matthew 6:24-34 MSG
“You can’t worship two gods at once. Loving one god, you’ll end up hating the other. Adoration of one feeds contempt for the other. You can’t worship God and money both.
“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion- do you think it makes any difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.”
“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers-most of which are never seen-don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, and God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all you’ll ever need “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
To destroy worry about money, you need to make a few decisions based on our scripture text for today.
DECISION NUMBER 1 (vs 24-26): I WILL NEVER VALUE MONEY MORE THAN GOD. Worship is worth-ship. It is the celebration of worth (value). An exchange happens when we worship. You lay down your life to reflect how valuable God is, God gives you value in exchange through His revelation and power (Solomon did this):
1 Kings 3:3-5 NLT
Solomon loved the Lord and followed all the decrees of his father, David, except that Solomon, too, offered sacrifices and burned incense at the local places of worship. The most important of these places of worship was at Gibeon, so the king went there and sacrificed 1,000 burnt offerings. That night the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”
